Sean Barker
As usual there will be two runs, an A run setting off from the Forest Pub and a B run heading off from Rednal (outside the Chinese restaurant at the top of Cofton Park) I shall be leading the B run and will be following using the following route The Saracen Club run - Charlecote Garden Centre
Mick Hazlewood
Yes, sounds like a good run and venue to me. Always a favorite. The A's will hopefully follow on and meet you there, although perhaps a little longerafter the B group than normal as our run is going to become slightly slower than usual. We have been told to steady it up a bit. Yes I know I am one of the guilty ones !!.
Sean Barker
Well the B run will be quite sedate too. I will be looking for a recovery ride after riding a particularly lumpy 200km Audax into the Welsh mountains the day before.

Mick Hazlewood
A's run will be collecting PhilC up at Tardebigge in the morning at 9.45 and also anyone else wishing to join us on our way to Charlecote. The A's will be traveling at a slightly slower pace than normal. Yes it is me who has just said that.
Sean Barker
Well I’m back from my Audax after spending a large part of the day soaked. The B run tomorrow is going to be a gentle affair.

Sean Barker
There are eventful club rides and then there are the rides that are destined to become the stuff of folklore, this I suspect will be such a ride. After mapping out the route on Bike toaster I was hopeful a new and previously untried route would prove interesting. Er! And in a manner of speaking I suppose it could be described as just that. There were some mutterings as I led them down Icknield St but it turned out to be in pretty good shape all things considered. However Hell soon followed as I led them along and through a section of path that would have been more suitable for a spot of bog snorkelling than it was for cycling. It was just one of those cases of once you were in it there was little choice but to soldier on, also in the back of your mind there was that forlorn hope that the worst was behind you. Despite this soul destroying and leg sapping ordeal it became disturbingly obvious that not only was Richard Kent extremely adept at handling this challenge he actually seemed to be revelling in it. On completion of this section I realised that Tony Shardlow had turned off before we hit it, he clearly knew what we did not. As we passed through Ullenhall the group, somewhat stretched, split again as some riders turned one way and some another. I couldn’t help but think the fact that I started off with eleven riders and I was now down to four was a disturbing testament to my ability as a leader. Anyway we reassembled at the café where we were soon joined by the A group. The return trip was to prove even more eventful as unfortunately we were to suffer a crash. As we rode into the blinding sun, Laura fell victim to severe erosion on the side of the road and before she could react she was down and immediately joined by Mandy. A little straightening of derailers and handlebars and we were soon on our way. I just hope Mandy and Laura suffer no stiffness or after effects. On the up side it was a beautiful autumnal day and the company as usual was excellent. Today’s riders A Run Mike Hazlewood Kevin Young Ken Hadden Phil Carbutt Gary Woodward John Shelly B Run Sean Barker Laura Lane Kay Davies Pete Cooper Chris Kent Owen Hazlewood Chris Thompson Dave Mitchell Mandy Mitchell Richard Kent Tony Shardlow
Richard K
Hi Shaun by the time we had turned round in Ullenhall you seemed to have dissapeared. Chris Kent & i chased hoping to catch up with you to in form you Kay & pete were off the back.! We arrived at Wooten Wawen no sign of you or of Kay who we inturn had dropped (apologies Kay)! By then i had lost the will to live & turned off at W.W. HAVING COMPLETLY MIXED UP WHERE I WAS HEADING! Dont know where Chris went. TonyS
Glad I baled out when I did. I swore many years ago not to go down either Icknield St or the Beoley lane ever again. Today confirmed my decision. Don't know if I came to Ullenhall before or after you lot but had a good ride round and got back for MotoGP. Sorry to hear about Laura and Mandy, hope no lasting problems and hope both out again soon.
Sean Barker
Hi Shaun Dont know where Chris went. Chris rode with Pete and got to the café moments before we did, Kay got there a couple of minutes later, just before the A run and then Dave and Mandy joined us. So we all made it save for yourself and Tony
Mick Hazlewood
WELL ! Seans report of the B's run makes the A run quite uneventful. As always when going eastwards our navigational skills always seem inadequate ( well mine anyway ) so a team effort it was to get to Charlecote, a good steady pace was set and a few wrong turns + 2 laps of Stratford later and we found ourselves going in the right direction towards Wellsbourne/Charlecote and had safely detoured round the dreaded A46 without risking life and limb. On our arival the B's were tucking into there food and were told of there epic adventures on route. Late arrivals Mandy and Dave joined us after a while and appeared to have enjoyed a trouble free ride out. Sorry to hear the girls fell off on the way back and hope you are both no worse off for the experiance. Great to see Derek 'tank' Barton joining us when we set off from the Forrest this morning. I noticed Derek wasn't wearing a crash helmet, now I don't no whether that was because he hasn't got one or he may just have been showing us he still has a full head of grey hair. Good to see you out mate and look forward to seeing you out on a regular basis.
Mrs DAVIES
I attempted the mucky route until my back wheel completely jammed solid. I met Laura and O trying to free up their wheels and dig out their cleats. It was awful, but it was soon behind me. After losing the others I rode alone from just after Ullenhall following the Garmin. It was a really beautiful day! I am afraid having never been to the coffee stop I overshot and ended up at Wellesborne Air field. I met a nice cyclist who escorted me back to Charlecote garden Centre. The return journey was a challenge for me. I hadn't realised how late it was and ended up riding home in the dark. I had a few emergency lights on my helmet but not really ideal. I just had to be extra careful. Walked through the kitchen door at 16;59 hrs. I hope Mandy and Laura are OK.
Lauralane
I loved today!! There were a few hiccups but hey ho!! I have a mighty fine graze on my right buttock! But other than that I'm fine. Sorry Mandy for taking you down!! Hope you and your bike are ok. I blame the council for not looking after their roads!! Gutted I'm on nights this week. Will see you all soon I'm sure x
Sean Barker
Kay I could see you were really tired towards the end and before I knew it myself and Laura had ridden away from you but being as we were altogether at Tardebigge I knew you knew where you were. Glad to know you made it back safely be it under cover of dark.
Mick Hazlewood
Thats amazing Kay, I have never been able to walk through my kitchen door, I always have to openit first. I must try it at 16.59 hrs and see if It works for me.
DaveM
May I recommend the Ordnance Survey map, 1:50,000 scale, Sheets 150 and 151. I used them to find our way to Charlecote today. We were able to plan our route via roads, as they are clearly defined using a colour coding system i.e, yellow for roads generally more than 4m wide and red dotted lines for bridleways. These maps are obtainable free on loan from your local library. They are environmentally friendly, do not give off any harmful emissions and can be used as an insulator against the cold. They do not require an energy source and are not a cause of annoyance to others in a confined area such as a cafe. Today's accounts of the club run are similar to what I imagine a Wildebeest might write, if it had the ability, of their annual migration.
MandyM
Hi Laura so glad you are relatively unscathed, relieved for you that things were no worse than a 'mighty fine graze' on your butt!! I'm fine also, the main thing is the bike's are alright!! Look forward to seeing you soon. Mike H. You haven't got a kitchen door anyway, only the hole where there should be one!! Lancashire Lad
Having just returned from Spain family affairs prevented me from riding today, by lunchtime I was champing at the Bit, then I read the reports. What a great day I had !!! cleaning the car and clearing leaves this afternoon has never felt better, no mud just clean water and not on me, it was fantastic. The ride sounded even worse than the day we came back from Worcester via Romania!. Pleased there was no serious injury, but it sounds to me that two women were fighting each other to ride next to a fellow.
DaveM
Forgot to say going out, Mandy and I saw Tony at Little Alne coming the other way. He was riding like he had stolen the bike and there was a look of fear in his eyes. What was he fleeing from? What horror had he experienced? Barry, I too made the wrong decision today. I was going to get down the manhole in my garden and clean out the drains but I decided to go on the club run instead. You can't win them all! Mrs DAVIES
68.8miles. 38.8miles was the return journey. Not quite your 74 Richard. Most of my rides have been around the 50/55 distance recently. My shoulders, back & hips really felt the last 14. That and nearly 70miles on one toasted tea cake. Got REALLY cold after dark, my hands were freezing. Need to put my race shields on from now. Oh! And lights. Still, "if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger". I probably did walk "through" the back door I was that disorientated Mike. Did these sort of distances at beginning of October. Touring pace with breaks for food though! The day was stunning though! ChrisP
Good morning Ivor seems like we need to have a club night devoted to navigation. We must be spending to much time on the front and those following not noting which way we are going. What do you think? I was rather upset that I had to join a family lunch party when the weather was so inviting. Maybe not such a bad move after all. If the muddy lane is where I think it is, I once went up with Andy Seabourne I think it says bridlepath meant for long legged creatures and we are not all built like Sean. Or was it the old lane the back of the Village Inn pub? Trust you also had a good lunch with your family in comfortable suroundings.
