You're too kind, Ivor. But as you say, those who didn't make it missed out on an autumn classic, including new roads for some, chaos at the checkout, Barry drooling over a classic tandem and much discussion of vests and translucent shorts :-)

As the Deford group said what another great autumn day for a bike ride.

A small group of us set out form the Forest for the Shelsley Walsh hill climb.

We set of lead by myself and JohnP closely followed by JohnS, GrahamK,ChrisPo and Speedy Kevin.

Having crossed to the dark side of the A38 and knowing about the Big Bad Troll at Holt Fleet we shot across

the Severn Bridge not daring to look over either side before turning into uncharted lanes and heading through Ockeridge to our destination.

What a stunning place to met many old friends.

We headed to the cafe for our first round of tea and cakes where we were joined by Dave and RuthS.

We settled down for some serious chatting but GrahamK soon reminded us what we there for and after a short stroll

to the start line just managed to see the rear of PaulH who was taking a deep breath before tackling the wall ahead of him.

From there we took a short walk up the hill to our next view point just in time to see DaveM climb past.

After some discussion about the danger of trying to ride up hills fast at a certain age the decision was made to return to

the cafe for further refreshments. Watching grown men in lycra struggling over the front of the handle bars can be very distressing.

We settled down again in a crowded room filled with cyclist and were soon joined by Dave and Judy Jones.

On leaving the cafe DaveM joined us for the return ride home but before we could set of two guys wanted to

take our picture for the club kit.

What a great place pity it's not open every Sunday only about 25 miles from the Forest.
