More W'End Results 7th June, BRAT TRIATHLON.

Recommended Posts

Sam was competing in her first Triathlon of the 2014 season in the

BRAT Sprint Triathlon ( B'Ham,Running,Athletics & Triathlon Club )

at the weekend on Saturday morning.

The Sprint distance triathlon consisting of a 750 m lake Swim, 22km

Bike on a road circuit and to finish a 5km Run on a two lap out and

back course by the lake.

The start of the race was 8am so it was an even earlier start to

travel and get there for signing on.

Once there and signed in for the race the Bike was racked in the

transition area and entrance and exits were checked out for a smooth

and hopefully fast transition between the swim to bike and bike to

run. Numbers were also attached to Bike, Body and Helmet and a Transponder fitted to the ankle for accurate timing throughout the

event. All this took place around many visits to the toilet (Nerves)

it never gets any better does it.

With about half an hour before the start of Sams race the Super Sprint

race had already started and the heavens opened up with Thunder in the

background and Hail bouncing off the ground, it did not look to promising

and looking out to the lake the first of the competitors were well on

there way.

It was now time for the start of Sams race and fortunately the rain had

stopped and she made her way down to the lakeside and into the water.

Sam had a great swim coming out of the water 2nd woman closely

followed by another a few seconds back.

Into transition for a quick change to the bike were she actually exited on

her bike in third position with just 18 seconds between the first three

woman.

On her return from the bike leg she was in the lead with a good two

minutes to the second placed and even more to third woman.

The run should be a formality for Sam but her season long injury which

has restricted her running training this year was tobe the big test.

Well no worries there, after the first lap of the run she still had a

comfortable lead and by the end of the second lap she had increased

this advantage and at the finish by some 3 minutes to win the event.

She also came 8th overall out of 129 competitors both male and female.

A tremendous result and she puts 100% into everything she does.

This was the first Triathlon I had been to watch Sam and hopefully it

won't be the last as I was so pleased to be able to give her some moral

support and help if needed.

WELL DONE SAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Her next Triathlon is in a couple of weeks time. The Dambusters standard

distance triathlon at Rutland Water.

Thanks for that great report Mick, you are right I was nervous but having support there (and realising the support is nervous) actually made it a lot, LOT easier for me :-)

Really enjoyable morning despite the dramatic weather. Mick a massive help to me lugging stuff around and sorting my bike out...and having my nerves for me!Good to get the first Tri of the season out the way and even better to make that a win, beat most of the men and come away with no after effects and a nice trophy! Dambuster is the National Champs and a qualifier for next years European Champs so no doubt will be brought back down to earth then but am never the less looking forward to the race.
