Sean Barker
I remember when I lived in Ireland and he was riding in the Olympics and all the excitement surrounding him. In fact it was he who got me interesting in cycling (from a spectator standpoint) and I then followed his career with interest especially in the Tour.He was a hard man both single minded and focused. I remember watching him being interviewed on Irish television and he was asked “Do you have to be tough to be a professional cyclist?” and he replied “Not at all we’re all pampered and well looked after, when I was a lad working on the farm and you would be bailing hay all day with your back aching and the blisters on your hands torn and bleeding but there was no stopping as it all had to be done before sunset. Now that was tough and those people are tough”You just had to love him.
