DaveM
I have just been given the very sad news that our dear friend and club member Lionel Onions passed away in the night. I know that Lionel had been ill recently and we will hear more of the circumstances of his leaving us in the near future. Many members will have great memories of Lionel and I myself rode in many events with him in the 70's. In the meantime our thoughts are with his family. R.I.P Lionel. Sean Barker
Sad news indeed to lose such a major part of the clubs history. I see on the records page that Lionel held the club veteran records for the 10 miles, 25 miles, 30 miles, 50 miles and 100 miles right throughout the 70’s Clearly a talented cyclist. stumpy
Really sorry to read this as I sat next to him at Tony's send off, it was obviously a great effort for him to attend there but he was very determined. A good kind man who will be missed. Colin B
TonyS
Ken & I used to see him occasionally in the lanes coming back from Droitwich. We always gave him a back wheel to follow and encouragement to get over the last few hills. R. I. P.

The service will be followed by a reception at the Meadow Farm Inn, Dagnel End Road, Redditch, B98 9BJ. The funeral will be ‘Club related’ and mourners are invited to wear their colours where possible. A rider escort will accompany the hearse from the main road to the Crematorium. DaveM
Thanks Sean. I think Eddie will direct on the day, I am just doing the admin bit. Would you like to ride in the escort for Lionel? Then just turn up in club kit with your bike. An idea of numbers before the day would be helpful, so just place a post or contact me if you are attending. The entrance to the Crematorium in Redditch is off the Sainsbury’s island at the junction of the Birmingham / Alvechurch road. If you approach Redditch from Alvechurch, when come to the Sainsbury’s island, take the third exit off the island, (sign posted) round the back of the new petrol station building site. This is the approach road to the crematorium. We will wait here for the cortege, they will be expecting us. Please be there at 13.00 latest. Many thanks Dave

Sarashell
It was with sadness that we heard of the death of our friend Lionel, our friendship goes back many years. A few years ago we rode my old tandem on club runs, and on weekends away, we also got drunk together a few times. He was always so enthusiastic even in later years when he could not ride on the road, but had the turbo in the house. So I feel that I must have one last ride with him next Monday. John Shelley. Saracen RC Administrator
As Colin and I were leaving the reception on our bikes we were greeted by a couple of the family members who thanked us and all the Saracen members for marking the occasion. We were told that Lionel had been laid to rest in full Saracen colours and even his cycling helmet. I was also asked if I could put up the Order of Service on the forum for the benefit of any Saracens who were unable to attend and would be interested.
