Would be great to get you to try TTs.  I loaned your sister Laura a couple of books on the subject. They cover all aspects of the sport.  Perhaps you could ask if she has finished with them and you will be welcome to read them pass them back to me.  Good luck!

Hi Rich,

A good place for you to start is to enter a local 10 mile TT, designed with novices in mind.

There is a specialist Midlands based Novice series... their website is here: http://mntts.org.uk/ They don't have (as of yet) dates up for 2016 but keep an eye on this website and they'll have the info up soon. Some events you can enter and sign up on the day; however, I would recommend whenever possible signing up online ahead of the event. There is a time limit on online entries, so the earlier you can sign yourself up the better.

You can enter most TT events online here: http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/events

Using this link you can see all TT's, both single and team events. In order to enter an event online you will need to sign up to the CTT website. Signing up doesn't cost anything but obviously entering events does. Any events that you enter you should receive confirmation of your entry and closer to the date you'll receive your start sheet, that lists details on the course, HQ, conditions of the ride and your allocated slot. Each rider is given a start time and it is v important that you are at the start line a couple of mins before your start time.

I would recommend holding fire for a week or two on entering any events, giving experienced racers a little time to look at the calendar and plan what events they are going to do. That way, we can advise what races have been entered, allowing you to 'cherry pick' the races you would like to do, knowing you won't be racing alone.

Alternatively, if you wanted to enter an event speak to Mick H who could attend the event with you and give you any advice or support you'd need as you learn about racing.

Bear in mind events advertised on the CTT are nationwide. Local events are held on courses that start with a K, such as the K33, or K41. :)

If you have seen an event and are interested in entering it just shout on here or on Facebook and we'll advise on the course, etc.

Hello, Richard.

Eddie Smith and Mick Hazlewood will put on an informal 'mini-seminar' at the next monthly club meeting at Wythall (Tuesday, 2nd February at 8.30 prompt) for anyone who is new to time trialling, and racing in general.  It will last about half an hour and the aim is to give some background information on the structure of the sport, the differences between club and open events, and the practicalities of entering events.  Eddie and Mick hope that this will be of interest, and experienced riders will  not be barred from attending !

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for the messages and also thank you for the club evening run down of racing! Was brilliant to see everyone and get all the information on racing. It has inspired me to firstly get my bum back on a bike after my recent unplanned down time, and to try some racing this season!!!

I'm back training and will be out with you all soon!!

Lots of love!

Good morning

Just thought I would make you all aware I am doing my first TT next Tuesday. the K41/10 in Coventry. This one is Marshalled by Hinckley Cycling Club of which a work friend is a member.

Of course I will be in Saracen Colours, however this is my first TT so don't expect too much! Hopefully I will get hooked and start to compete more and more.

Pray for me! :D

Regards

Have a good race Richard and let us know how you get on.  It's a good safe course out and back .on a main single carriageway road but just be careful at the far turn were you have to negotiate a busy traffic island

Thanks Mick!

i did it! Fantastic feeling, i think im up for a few more of these. I posted 30.58. For a first time im bloody happy with that :D :D Laura came down and drove me round the route and gave me much needed tips and advice. I know i could of pushed harder, so i'm definitely keen to work on this discipline and improve.

Nice to see a Saracen RC rider on a page full of Hinckley CRC. :D

Nice photo as well from Laura.First_time_trial.thumb.jpg.8a1dfca281ee1

Flying the club colours down here in Somerset for the first time this year on a wonderful sunny evening. Had a bit of a celebrity riding just in front of me in one Marcin Bialoblocki (one pro cycling) who did a bit of a ride in last years tour of Poland final TT stage taking a fine win.

Hi Guys & Gals,

Hope you all enjoyed your spring Audax, like down here the weather looked sunny but a bit cool early on.

I was down to ride Northover Vets 25TT on the U30/25 Sunday after scraping the car windscreen off at 5:30am (not a good sign) it was off to a 07:04 start.

Jeez it was cold first decision was shorts / skinsuit or full winter gear as it was 2deg. I thought better to be warm than cold so went for the full winter set up. my pusher off recognised the jersey and mentioned Paul Carbutt Chris Kent and Chris Pardoe before giving me a good shove. Anyway I was off but then disaster, sugar my rear disc had pulled over bugger, so got that sored and time to try again. All went well targeting a power output of 200 watts with a little more on the inclines but found it hard to hold the power on the fast bits. finished about a minute slower than my last 25 3 years ago with a 1:20:31 (Strava) not brilliant but its all I had on the day.

Brilliant result from your first attempt on that course! Something I can only hope for!

An update from myself also, I attended the K41/10 which is ran by Hinckley CC this week. Knocked 51 seconds off my first attempt which brought me agonisingly close to a 29' something. my time was 30.07.

For my second ever TT im very happy with my progress, but will be looking to train further and improve in this field.

:)

Cheers guys,

Richard well done  it's always good to ride a PB  you just need to keep riding at or slightly above that effort level a couple of times per week for around 8-10 minutes at a time for 4  intervals and give yourself 8-10 minutes easy pedalling between don't forget to warm up first and cool down after  and I'm sure more PBs will follow.
