A few pictures from today's Tommy Godwin Challenge.
As John said good route, good weather, plenty of cake at Great Alne stop and the finish.
Good company and we managed to stay together all the way around.

This is how you do it.

No this is how you do it.

    Over the shoulder photography.

Small problem holding camera riding bike and watching where one's going.

    A good club turnout.

    Moira doing the highland jig.

Moira isn't the only one not liking hills Chris Poole trying not to look up.

    Girl power.

What Chris failed to mention was the fact that the Saracens from Birmingham received a mention from the guy on the PI system when we rode into the square at Pershore. Another great day on the bike with the C's as usual, but Bl---y cold waiting for the race to pass. Never before has tea tasted so good

Enjoyed the day . Coffee 1 almond croissant and Portugese tart . Oh ! plus good company . Bit cold must have been the speed we were going forcing the air through .
View of the peloton even in the neutral stage was fleeting . Waved at Cav but he was preoccupied so didn't see me.

    Well it was like this:-
Barry, Ivor, Richard, wrong location but right time Tim met @ Tardebigge as arranged without the expected support of Leigh "Fidgetyfingers" & Sean "Can't get his butt off his (or other person(s) for that matter) mattresses Barker.
We pressed on believing time to be of the essence into what felt like a nagging constant South Westerly.
    Ivor departed:-turning for Droitwich & home ? on a non-stopper @ Grafton Flyford.
This left yours truly on the front with Barry ("half-bike" ? Lucas) to battle on to Pershore where Tim (much too fit for us) pressed on for Defford to meet-up with his other far-too-fit mates!
Well we nearly lost Richard (small-tanks &/or leaky washers) KENT as he sought suitable watering holes around the Abbey!
We then settled on a suitable location in the town on the square just down from the old Cafe' to view the cavalcade amongst several hundred other spectators!
How pleased was I that I'd donned a  gortex outer top, anticipating the rain that never actually reached us, as it was distinctly chilly & Autumnal for our 45 minutes wait.
Well the swift passage of 100 elite pro's together with the preceeding & following entourage was in my opinion worth the wait (almost approaching the classical continental spectacle)
With the aid of 21st Century communications & Sean under (the bed) cover BARKER's phone a meet @ Coffee 1 was arranged:- where warmth, good company, food ? drink & conversation restored the inner man!
GOOD DAY, GREAT COMPANY AND SPECTACLE:- WISH YOU COULD'VE BEEN THERE !!!!!!

Well we got to Defford in plenty of time, there was already a crowd on the grass island, a bit of excitement in the air. Then Tim turned up, he had been to Pershore with the Cs, but that's another story. Anyway I've never seen so many motorbikes, lots of them kept coming past, then someone gave out free blowup things, that kept the children ? happy for a while. At long last the race came past, just like that and then they were gone, so we all went to the cafe.
Out at Defford today were :-
    Bev A.
    Moira B.
    Mavis S.
    Eddie S.
    Tim B.
    John S.
    Mick H.
    Alan P.

A few pictures from today's ride.
    Spot the place.
A test of local knowledge not competitive no prizes.
Have you been looking where you are when out for a ride.
Clue started by heading out to Evesham.
     1) This is where i'm heading what's the area called?

    2) One for the steam train spotters. Where's this?

    3) Bike awaits a little climbing to be done. Whats this hill called?

    4) After the top road keeps rolling up and down. A National Trust House not far away. Whats that called?
Thought Mr Shelley was taking the Bs to find lavender.

    Not a B insight.

    5) A stopping place for refreshments hidden behind the trees. Where are we now?

This might help we usually approach the other way.

    6) Name the landmark?

    7) Whats the village in the distance?

    Another clue.

    8) Just turning for home.
Whats this village called and what treats are available at this hotel?

What a great day for getting a few miles in.
Did catch up with Chris T by the cemetery at the top of Primrose Hill fortunately he'd
    only punctured.

The weather was ideal for cycling ? today, warm but not too hot, not much wind. So there were six of us out today, it was nice to see Richard Keyte who hadn't been out with us for a wile, he told us he had ridden the Ride London, very impressive.
The Lavender Hall cafe was good, as it always is. We went via Claverdon and up the 1 in 6, a few complaints from certain quarters, but altogether a nice ride.
So then, out today were :-
    Moira B.
    Tim B.
    Richard Keyte
    Mick H.
    Chris T.
    John S.

By agreement of the Organising Committee, tomorrow's destination is Ellenden Farm Shop tearooms, Harvington. Recommended by ChrisP so any complaints must be made to him.
09.45 prompt at Tardebigge. Outwards route via Bradley Green and Rous/Atch Lench (compulsory stops at each hilltop), return via Dunnington and Abbots Morton.
No bad jokes, thank you, erudite conversation only.

Well, that was a nice change. New cafe, some new roads and a change of scenery. Plus of course the usual good riding company. Such a shame that the Lenches seem to get steeper every year that passes
    At the cafe were
    Ladies : Christine & Ruth
Others : Ivor, ChrisK, Barry, Sean (with new tyres), Flea Litchet and TonyS
Given a Beacon group turned up at the same time as us, the staff coped very well, the service was good and the lady owner was very welcoming towards cyclists (that was before the second Beacon lot turned up just as we were leaving).

Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath.
This made him what? A super callused fragile mystic plagued with halitosis
I said to the gym instructor ‘Can you teach me to do the splits?’ He said ‘How flexible are you?’ I said ‘I can’t make Tuesdays’

There once was a cyclist called Sean
Whose tyres were all tattered and torn
    There was a loud sound
    And much hanging around
Oh poor man, he did feel forlorn

There certainly was a lot of tut-tutting and disapproving looks at my tyre but I for one thought it looked great. That sexy see-through look and that erotic off the rim cut did it for me.
Although on a more serious note a big thanks to everyone for taking care of me in my hour of need, particularly Ivor who because of my tennis elbow took complete charge of the on road reparations and saw me along with the rest of the crew to Droitwich where Dave sorted me out with a safe tyre to make my way home. I got home just before 5:00 with just shy of 80 miles on the clock.

Went to Halfpenny Green via Shatterford, a bit up and down today, (some people don't like hills), but a very nice ride. We sat out in the sun at the airfield watching the ✈️ planes, very pleasant.

Just like to say that, on the 24th September, the Bs ?? will be riding the Tommy Godwin Challenge sportive, so if you wish to ride, please think about entering it. The 24th September, by the way is the same day as the big Birmingham ride so a lot of the roads to the west of us will be closed. Another good reason to ride the T. G. Challenge.  ?????
