Club Run Sunday 26th April

Hi guys,

Owen and I are going to jump on our fixed bikes and ride with the B's tomorrow. I know many of us were at Charlecote last Sunday as part of the audax, but they always do great food and drinks there and it's just down the road from Wellesbourne....

Failing that there's always the delights of Pershore? ;-)

Rich Keyte will be joining us tomorrow too :)

Today's ride started for me with a ride from Blackwell to Lai Ling with Owen, where we met up with Laura Lane and Richard Keyte. At just after 9:15am we rode to the Tardebigge meeting point, taking a little detour along the way courtesy of the ongoing roadworks happening around the Blackwell/Barnt Green railway bridges.

We found a number of riders waiting at Tardebigge, and we were quickly joined by three others. Unsure of the destination, I asked around and found that rather than heading to Wellesbourne, Charlecote or Pershore the group planned to take the long way to Hilliers to meet up with some more Saracens. An ideal destination for me, given that I have just upped the gearing on my fixed to a 65.8 - it sounded like a great route to test this new setup.

A large contingent of Saracen riders made their way through the lanes. Gary Woodward and John Shelley maintained a nice steady pace on the front all the way to the cafe.

We were astonished to find 'remedial works' being made on Flying Horse Lane - however, these 'improvements' have made a rough road even more dangerous. I would recommend giving it a miss for a while. Others are calling for cyclists to report this issue to Worcestershire County Council. In fact Alan Weaver has already started a which I urge all to take a look at!

We passed through Radford and headed out towards the Lenches. After a few climbs the group started to split up, but we all rolled in at Hilliers in one group :)

Once at the cafe we were soon joined by the 'C' run, where poor Laura Lane was berated for her lack of attendance at a TT held yesterday. Despite her efforts the earth didn't swallow her whole! A number of riders from other clubs also arrived at Hilliers, nice to see so many cyclists out and about!

As always Hilliers were very accommodating and did a great job of tending to our needs. Once fed we were back on the road. The day was starting to brighten, adding a warmth to the ride. On the ride back we saw the familiar smiling face of Richard Fisher, who had popped out and done his own thing. Great to see you out Rich!

We took a shorter route home, and towards the end the pace geared up a little, with Owen, Kevin Young, John Shelley, Gary Woodward and myself making the front group. I enjoyed a nice turn on the front, where Kevin Young just helped me maintain a good pace - thanks Kevin!

A good ride was had by all and riders in the mixed A/B group included:

Kevin Young

Owen Hazlewood

Tim Bruton

Derek Barton

Laura Lane

Richard Keyte

John Shelley

Gary Woodward
Mick McClure
Chris Kent
Hannah Smith

In the C group were:

Dave Mitchell

Mandy Mitchell

Tony Shardlow

Ken Haddon

Brilliant report Hannah! Although, you missed several key items! Firstly, the confrontation with the horses which if im honest was a bit freaky, and looking back I think the club reacted very well considering the reaction of the horses! And also, the brilliant bike handling skills of Laura whilst preparing to leave Hillers, our up and coming star... falling right over on to the floor (grass thankfully) Apart from those items, a job jolly well good! Really enjoyable ride, felt good to get back out with you all :) x
