Mrs DAVIES
Continental four seasons. I can get em off but not back on! Very stiff! Any tips?
Dave Cox
If you can't do it Kay I don't know who can. I often tell people of your remarkable tyre fitting expertise as demonstrated in Crowle a couple of years ago! Recently with some snow and ice tyres I've used those VAR levers advertised in Cycle (check out CTC Forum) plus two toe clip straps. My daughter suggested warming the tyres but keeping the rims cool! Sean Barker
In the winter I use Schwalbe Marathon Plus, primarily for the puncture resistance but live in fear of getting a puncture out on the road as they are absolute buggers to change. In fact I have snapped plastic levers in the process. In the summer months I favour Schwalbe Durano Plus which is an altogether easier tyre to change, now whether this be partly due to the warmer conditions and consequently the slightly expanded rubber I'm not entirely certain but one thing I am certain of is that certain tyres are easier to get on and off than others. Mrs DAVIES
Changing everyone's else's punctures whilst doing a tutorial on the KES rides with great ease.5 blokes tried to get the tyre on! They couldn't either.Saw a U Tube video suggesting a bit of squeeze fot the last bit. Wipe rims after.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sean Barker
Another thing to consider is that folding tyres are a lot easier to get on the rim
Mrs DAVIES
VAR Levers ordered. Finally, the ever resourceful Mr R Bishop got the tyre back on with these. There was me thinking it was his superior grip strength!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DaveM
You might find this video helpfull Kay. I find a liberal dusting of talcum powder makes the job easier. Thats on the tyre and rim - not you.
rovi
Definately talcum powder Tyre fitters use liquid soap You must make sure the tyre is pushed Well down in the rim all the way round Before you ease the last bit over the edge of the rim Do not inflate the inner tube too much Just enough to hold it's shape If still no good Bring em round. Thats on the tyre and rim - not you. Loved this, Thanks Dave. The bike shop taught me to squeeze both back and front beads together in to the middle if the rim. I never knew why though! I see what Dave means about toe straps now! Incidentally, the guys who couldn't get my tyre on did say the couldn't believe it, as they rode Schwalbe marathons and could get those on themselves. VAR Levers, Squeezy, Straps and squeezing the bead down then! Thanks everyone!

Tyres are on! Rob Bishop got them on with VAR levers! What concerns me is my next puncture. I will get them off, change the flat! Will I get them back on? I think I best start riding. Not only riding, riding with some experienced people. However, there was one individual who cleared off when he saw I had a flat. Wouldn't be welcome in the SRCC though!
