DaveM
I intercepted the ‘A’s at Flying Horse Lane and they were moving at a good rate even into a strong wind. The pace slowed down after a change at the front near Inkberrow and we managed to keep together up the climbs to Weethley Gate. Just before the Toll House Lee punctured but we were soon on our way again after he got his little thing out that goes phsssst! and pumps your tyre up in a flash. ‘Road Closed’ at Dunnington Bank and it was messy but we could get through with care. On reaching Bidford we had another puncture, Chris Kent this time, his third this week. Shortly after starting the repair a gentleman came out of a nearby house and offered the use of his track pump. A fellow cyclist from the Stratford Road Club. Splendid gesture don’t you think? Onward then to the Carriage at fast pace with the wind now at our backs. There we found Ivor and the ‘B’s sitting comfortably and together we managed to fill the whole place. The staff were a little pressurised by our number but coped well and we got an extended break out of it. I did not have an entry in for the road race back so I peeled off at Welford to take the direct route to Droitwich. Bad move. The contactors working on Dunnington Bank had turned it into a water theme park by diverting the mains down the road. “It says ‘Road Closed’ mate”. OK…. point taken. On the Orient Express today were : John and Chris Poole, Graham K, Ivor, Richard K, Mike, Sean, Chris Kent, John S, Pete C, Phil C, Emma, Matt, Gary, Owen, Hannah, Lee, Kev, Speedy Kev, Brian Bourne, Tim Brueton and myself. Record turnout making it a great club run. I prepared a copy of this earlier today but it disappeared into a black hole when I pressed ‘post’. Yes it's fine Emma........smile everybody Sean spots a 1p piece and hopes he can get to it before Speedy Kev Come on........... just like a bunch of old women!
