SIDI shoes

I’m in the market for a new pair of SIDI shoes, I’m not sure if they are better than the other makes or just suit my feet better but after trying several others over the years  I’m sticking with them.

I have a couple of pair of predominately white ones but would ideally like to get a pair of black to better hide the mud splashes and be easier to keep looking clean. They have to be spd’s and as I’m not desperate would have to be a good deal.

Chris Kent was saying yesterday that Wiggle have them in at a great price but alas they are either all sold out today or I simply can’t find them.

If anyone happens upon a good deal please give me the heads up.

Depends what you mean by 'great price'. Sidi prices have risen a lot in the past few years - fortunately I saw it coming and (like fine wine) laid a couple of pairs down for future use. If you want spd fitment I guess you'll be looking at an MTB style so you can walk in them in comfort. Deals do occasionally come up online, so best bet is to google specific models on a regular basis, but try Ribble or Chain Reaction for base mark prices.

Thanks Tony, they pass two of the three criteria (great price and colour) alas they fail the all-important third (size)

I did see them when I was looking earlier but unfortunately no size 46

probably should have mentioned my size in the original post lolblue.gif

I admit that I do like Sidi shoes, but I prefer the fit of the "Mega" size as opposed to the standard fitment.  However, I have recently moved away from Look type cleats in favour of SPDs.  Now the problem is that they only do the "Dominator" MTB shoe in Mega sizing in SPD, and this style of shoe does not have any mesh on the upper part of the shoe, so in warm/hot weather your feet will cook. :(

The other issue I have with Sidi SPD shoes (and Specialised and Mavic!) is the interface between the shoe cleat and the actual pedal, there is a minor tolerance issue.  You will find that when you are climbing and while one foot is pushing, and you are pulling up on the other foot, the shoes will "click" as the cleat moves up against the cleat.  I dont know if anyone heard my shoes clicking on all the climbs yesterday?  To be fair, its not really a problem, its more a case of a irritating noise.

Furthermore, the shoes do tend to rock from side to side as the sole is not in 100% contact with the whole of the pedal face. Yes, its only minor issue I know, but once you do notice it, then it does prove to be rather irritating at times.

Now as a point of interest, but Shimano SPD shoes do not suffer from either "problem" at all.  In fact and as you would expect from using matching components, the shoe/pedal interface is extremely positive and is complete silent in its operation with no shoe/pedal rocking at all.  The only down side is that the shoes do tend to come in rather narrow, and all the SPD shoes they produce are either MTB style shoes or just plain ugly!!!

Hopefully these (poor) pictures will illustrate the problem as to why the Sidi (and other makes) shoes rock and wobble and the Shimano ones dont?

The first picture is the Sidi shoe, look at the gap between the cleat and the spirit level, there isnt one.  You can see that the cleat is flush with the sole of the shoe.P1010005_zps29c3bca5.jpg

The second picture is of a Shimano shoe, now look at the gap between the cleat and the sole.  The cleat is recessed from the sole by roughly 1 to 2mm, thus making the sole a much better fit against the pedal and stopping any sideways rocking.
