Sean Barker
The Saracen Summer Audax report. This summer’s Audax was a success in terms of organisation, weather and rider participation (no accidents or mishaps out on the course) although the numbers were disappointingly down (24 finishers) but this seems to be something affecting Audax events as a whole this year.As is customary I would like to say a heartfelt thankyou to all those that made this event happen. So firstly a big thanks to Julie and her staff for looking after us all so well as usual. To Edwina and Hillary who now pretty much run the show.To the cafes at Cleobury and Bromyard who looked after us.To Chris Kent for his help on the lead up to the eventTo Mick McClure for being the official photographer (Any chance of seeing those photos Mick? )And especially to all the riders both Saracens and friende for their continued support of the event. ChrisP
Lack of numbers didn't spoil the occasion with a good show of club colours.Weather warmed up after a cool start. The climbing up to the first check point soon got the blood moving. My companions from the start to Bromyard were Owen H and Tim Crompton who had been up from Southampton visiting his mother and decided to join us before returning home.Tim and i rode the last leg to the finish together as Owen waited at Bromyard cafe to give Hannah a helping hand back to Julies. We worked well together all the way back recalling what we did racing together 30 odd years ago.More pictures for the album. Owen steps in the way again.Andy S gets his card stamped. Muddy bikes after off road stretch.Morris dancers everywhere in Bromyard.GET THOSE SHORTS MAYBE SUIT LEE DE GRAY>Moira playing with her own bells.Tim shows how its done.Sean passes on instructions to the team.I'm sure we all wish Dave C all the best for the future as he leaves for College this week.I hope he looks as fresh as this after his two weeks of freshers. He could end up like this having just finished of the Chinese take away and about to emptythe rest of the bottles. A great way to finish of the day with friends.HAPPY DAYS>That's all for now GOOD NIGHT.
AlanW
Indeed, a truly cracking day and one that I really enjoyed, thanks to everyone in our small group for the company and to everyone else that made it all happen.Plus, and according to Mr Philpott we did really well arriving back at Julies for quarter past twelve. However on closer inspection of the clock it turned out to be three o' clock and NOT quarter past twelve after all....brilliant!!
Dave and ruth
Yes a good day. Thanks to Sean for organising it and to Hilary and Edwina for doing the booking in etc.Much better weather this year but it was good to see Sean with a mop and bucket last year.I've asked Chris to give Alan a lesson in telling the time. He got his little hand a bit mixed up with his big hand.Ruth
